The Foley Artist Project

Effective audio is a key part to making a successful video production. It takes specialized audio technicians to help create an awesome fight scene or stunning chase sequence. During these types of video scenes, extra sound effects have to be created and dubbed into the video to make things look and

sound more realistic. The audio technicians that work to create these sound effects are called Foley Artists. You can find out more information about the Foley Artist career path here : http://www.filmsound.org/foley/

In this project, you will become a Foley Artist as you add real-life sound effects to an otherwise silent clip from an animated movie. The goal of the sound effects are to make the video/film more realistic and entertaining - reaching more of the viewers' senses and capturing the audience more effectively.

Download the video located on the right. You will see a an airplane, a clock, an animal, electronic machinery, and a speaking voice area among many other things in the clip. You are to incorporate sound effects and background music into the video to help it appear more realistic.  Additionally, you will record your voice for the speaking part - "The hour has come" and alter how it sounds using effects in Audition. You can find additional sound effects on-line to add more realism to your project.  Remember your audio levels should all sound the same, but that your background music should be low in the background and not overpower your natural sounds.

As you work, save your project as a audio project file (.mp3) and name it last name +first initial + foley.  You will have to open the movie in Premiere and import your audio and place sounds where they need to be. Export your movie as an MP4 file.
